I really enjoyed releasing the baby Turtles on the beach! However, the waves were quite powerful and I'm not particularly fond of the black sand. Additionally, I ended up getting sick after eating some ceviche from Johnny's place.
Monterrico is known as a black sand beach, but in reality, it resembles milk chocolate with a touch of golden sparkle. The water is pleasantly warm and the sand feels incredibly soft. While the beach itself may not offer much activity, the town is bustling with vibrant shops and restaurants that line the center, extending all the way to the beach. It's definitely worth taking a day trip from Antigua.
The weather was scorching. The water had a pleasant warmth to it and the black sand had a stunning appearance. The only reason I'm deducting a star is because it's not really possible to go for a swim. The tide and waves were incredibly powerful, making it unsafe. I would definitely consider returning during a time when it's safe to take a dip. Nonetheless, it was still enjoyable to relax by the shoreline and appreciate the scenery.
If you're planning a trip to Guatemala and want to check out one of the country's beaches, Monterrico Beach is the perfect spot. It's conveniently situated just 2 hours from Antigua and 3 hours from the City, making it easily accessible by either booking a special bus or hopping on a Chicken bus. The beach itself is in a great location, with a wide range of hotels and restaurants to suit any budget. Have a fantastic stay!
The beach is really lovely, with its smooth black sand. However, swimming is not recommended due to the strong sea current. It's a great place to relax and watch the beautiful Pacific Ocean sunset. I hope the locals will continue to maintain the cleanliness of the area.
