We really enjoy this beach. We have visited multiple times in our motorhome. The facilities are always kept clean and the pitches are a decent size. There is a cafe on site and it's just a short walk over the bridge to the lovely town of Avignon.
The beach is conveniently located near the city center, making it a great spot for visiting Avignon. It's also one of the few campgrounds in the area that stays open in December, perfect for travelers heading to Spain. The grounds are well-kept and the facilities, while a bit dated, are clean. However, some may find the prices to be a bit high for the amenities provided.
The beach has a fabulous location, just a 10-minute walk through the stone arch into Avignon and another 10 minutes to the Palace of the Popes. There is a shop on site and you can get fresh bread in the morning if you book it the night before. The staff provided great service, with reception having good English skills, and the facilities were clean. When it comes to the rooms, make sure to bring a long extension cord as not every pitch has electricity. You can also ask reception for a pitch near the electric box. The sanitary facilities were clean but a bit tired and dated, and like many French sites, there were no toilet seats. Hot water was only available in the morning and evening during our visit. The WiFi is paid for and not suitable for streaming, just for basic internet use like Facebook. The cost for 2 nights was 41 euros with an Asci card.
I really wanted to give Camping Bagatelle 4 stars, mainly because of the great location and friendly staff at reception and in the bar/restaurant. However, the site itself is quite outdated and worn, so I ended up giving it a 3-star rating. Checking in was quick and easy, with a clear map of the site provided to us. Our pitch had electricity that worked well throughout our stay, although the shrubs separating each pitch were sparse and not well-maintained. The pitch was level but dusty due to the gravel surface. The shower block was old but clean, with some cracked and missing tiles. The water was always hot for showers and washing up. We didn't use the launderette, but it was available if needed. The restaurant and bar were a bit dated, with indoor and terrace dining options. It was nice to relax on the terrace in the evening, and the staff were friendly. The location of the campsite is fantastic, with a short walk to the beautiful walled city. Overall, it's a great location for a campsite that has potential for improvement in the future.
The location is great for visiting Avignon and the Via Rhona cycle path. However, the campsite itself is run-down. The facilities are not well-kept, with broken tiles and fixtures. The pitches are small and dusty, with little shade. The lighting is dim and there are numerous signs with instructions posted throughout the area.
