Very nice swimming area that is getting old. But it will be renovated and modernized in the next few years. The bathing areas are open from 10:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m. and the lifeguard and DLRG are there from 10:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. It's a good place to swim and relax. The renovation work has been underway since autumn 2023 and should be completed by summer 2025. The bathing area is scheduled to open for swimming in summer 2024.
Nice beach directly on Lake Ratzeburg with changing rooms, toilets, snacks and DLRG surveillance. A shower, access to the water for disabled people, a sandy beach, a volleyball field and a jetty with benches and a small slide round off the free bathing fun. There is a boat rental right next to it.
The bathing area is located on the southern bank of the Great Ratzeburg Lake in the city of Ratzeburg with a view of the Ratzeburg Cathedral. The Great Ratzeburg Lake has a size of approx. 1,260 hectares with a depth of up to 24.4 m and a shore length of 27.1 km. The area of the bathing area under consideration covers an area of 61.1 km2, which consists of agricultural areas (47%), forest areas (18%) and sealed areas (16%). The remaining areas (19%) are not used for bathing water. In this area, 95 stormwater discharges, one discharge from a domestic sewage treatment plant, two discharges from the two municipal sewage treatment plants, as well as the entries from the above were recorded. agricultural land has been identified as a potential source of pollution. To the east of the bathing area there is a tributary from the Großer Küchensee. In the immediate vicinity of the bathing area there are also 12 rainwater discharges, the DLRG station, a jetty for passenger ships, a sailing school with pedal boat rentals, the rowing club, the rowing academy with its jetties and the professional fisherman.
