The Bahamas are beautiful and Crow's Nest is the perfect spot from which to enjoy Staniel Cay. Staniel is a small island in the Exhumas, and Crow's Nest sits right on top of the one and only hill on the island. There is a gorgeous view from every direction, and the house is an octagon with windows facing all ways! The house is very well equipped with furniture, kitchen equipment, etc. The master bedroom is on the second floor with windows surrounding you. A perfect spot on a perfect island!
Crow's nest is a wonderful and relaxing spot. I had the unique pleasure of staying here for 2 weeks in the Spring of 2017. With its extraordinarily aquatic biodiversity, striking landscape, poetic horizon, sunrise and sunsets (both can be seen from the loft bedroom!), and vast ocean (what incredible shades of blues!), Crow's nest is without any question a powerful and unique paradise in which a deep human-nature connection is fully available. On its lofty perch of seclusion, it feels like you are visiting an observatory – 360 degree views for miles. This home provides a meaningful and distinctly existential experience.
Crow's Nest is well named, for it sits on the highest part of the island with the sea and the horizon all around. From the large bed in the master bedroom you can watch the sun and moon rise from and set into the sea. Once up you have miles of walking paths that lead all over the island, a 1000' beach out front, and a private tidal pool ideal for swimming out back. The house itself is a delight, not just for it's magnificent views, but for the way it unpretentiously blends into its environment. A large rain water cistern and solar collectors for electricity and hot water provide these amenities even when the island systems cannot (not often, but it happens). The kitchen has all any cook would want, and the telephone and WiFi Internet provide modern diversions, should one tire of timeless beauty and serenity. There is no better place to read a great book. Staniel Cay itself provides just the right mix of a small but safe airstrip, island restaurants and stores, and dozens of welcoming people who are very anxious to share their island with you and help you enjoy your stay, whether you want to fish, fly, eat, snorkel, boat, or scuba dive, or just sit under a palm tree and take it all in. A stay at Crow's nest is sure to delight and refresh those lucky enough to stay there, as it always is for us, and returns us all home with a deeper understanding of what the Exumas are all about.
