Very nice hotel with a 5 star location. Rooms are big, and all rooms have some sort of view on the lagoon. Mine was the second row rooms but I still enjoyed the view from the terrace (which all rooms enjoy) and not more than 30 seconds from the beach. Although not too bad, the breakfast could use a little upgrade. Staff is friendly. Without transportation, you can hang out on the beach, visit the extraordinary bay with the turtles and the rays, but for the rest, the hotel is a bit isolated. No other restaurants, bars or shops.
This hotel is on the best beach (in my humble opinion) in the island. Crystal clear water, ghost crabs to chase and a well stocked restaurant with fresh seafood. There’s not many places to eat in the island other than hotels and this was a good one. It’s a bit of a drive from the airport (we hired a car whose owners meet us at the airport). Plenty of parking at the hotel. I would suggest not leaving your clothes outside to dry and the stray cats will leave you with a smell to remember them by. Room was huge and well air-conditioned. Great in-floor spa bath was amazing
Stayed at this hotel with a couple of friends. The location is great with turquoise water sandwiching the property. The rooms were spacious and comfortable and the bathroom had a large bathtub. Our fridge didn’t work really so we got a bucket of ice from the restaurant for our bottle of wine. The staff friendliness was hit or miss - some were super nice and some seemed disinterested. There was a slight language barrier with us not knowing French so that could be it. For English speakers I recommend downloading French on Google translate as this helped. The food was good we just really didn’t like the seafood trio starter plate - I’ve never had raw seafood with goats cheese before and wouldn’t recommend it and their Tahitian Salad was flavourless. The coconut crab was excellent and I recommend making a booking and letting them know how many crabs you want so you don’t miss out as this does sell out. The prawn pasta and the seafood in cream were good and my friend enjoyed her lamb shank which had a little chocolate drizzle. We didn’t have their breakfast as it’s a buffet style but I would suggest if you need breakfast do it here as the rest of the island doesn’t have a lot to offer for breakfast. You may be able to book breakfast with the local cafe next door called Snack Fassy if you want something local and not buffet. They are only open for Lunch and Dinner unless you check in with them the day before. Coffee on the island is also hard to come by as there’s no cafe culture so we also had this at the hotel. Drinks at the bar are about standard price for New Caledonia so we had a few but we also got duty free on the way in which I would recommend for wine as I don’t recall seeing a bottle shop on the island. Their cocktails though were super good costing about 1400XPF from memory. Also you can book a shuttle tour of the island with the hotel or rent a car but note there are not a lot of cars available so book ahead. Also would suggest if you’re not renting a car to book an airport shuttle ahead of time with the hotel.
Pristine location. Hotel staff were really good. Breakfast that was supplied was fine . Lunch and Dinner menus were very good. Chefs took pride in what they cooked for you. Beach was just wonderful apart from a green algae the first couple of metres that put you off from just diving in. We would walk about 2 km 's towards Moully to swim without algae. I don't think this algae would be here all year. We stayed 6 nights which i think is too long. 3 Nights is about enough as you can see all the tourist spots in 1 day. I suggest you hire a car before you arrive to pick up at airport. I have read this in previous reviews " I don't understand why safes in rooms are not bolted down". If you want tranquility and paradise this is it.
Highly recommend! What an awesome place. This hotel would have been amazing when it was built. It’s definitely run down now, but honestly it somehow adds to the charm. You go to Ouvea for the location, not for a resort style holiday. The staff were brilliant, food was good and fresh. Yvonne was so welcoming and assisted with every request promptly. I was amazed at how well most of the staff spoke English, despite being in a fairly remote French speaking location. Definitely hire a car (you can do this from the hotel) and explore all of Ouvea! Enter with a smile and remember you’re a guest in this special place, you are privileged to be there.
