I love less traveled trails, but this one left a bit to desire. Overgrown a bit, especially at the end.
We hiked from Lameshur Beach to this point early on one morning. The hike itself is fairly easy, but there is a steep hill on either side to get to the trail head. Not a bad place to be relaxing 10 am on a Wednesday!
Amazing view! 2/3 of the path has been cleared. A beautiful deer was in the bushes, right beside the trail!
Only one parking spot down a partial dirt road. The road changes from asphalt to dirt/gravel at the national park sign, but if your going there for sunrise be careful. The trail is reasonably well maintained (it har been clearly been weedwacked partly recently). Highly recommend for winter sunrise views. Once you get to the second hill the trees thin out and you get stunning views looking both SE and SW. Finding good sunrise locations for January was tricky, but if your up to start hiking in the dark this is a great location. Also, you likely won't find any other people, but don't be surprised if you run into a deer or two.
Ran from this trailhead to the Sugar Bay ruins. Tough run with a lot of climbing but beautiful views. There is one major incline and decline and then a mile or so that’s pretty flat which is pretty rare on the island.
